Marjorie “Beep” McGennis Obituary: The Mt. Vernon community is mourning the loss of Marjorie “Beep” Loyce (Erwin) McGennis, 83, who passed away on October 2, 2024, at West River Health Campus in Evansville.
Born on January 22, 1941, in Posey County, IN, to the late Elisha and Elsie (Roach) Erwin, Beep was a beloved member of the community known for her warmth, dedication to her family, and commitment to local causes.

Marjorie “Beep” McGennis was deeply rooted in the traditions of her farming family, having spent her life as a farm wife. She also worked as a custodian for the Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon for many years, where she was cherished by both staff and students alike.
Beep’s community involvement extended beyond her professional life. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club, where she served on the Extension Board, and was actively involved with the 4-H Council.
For many years, she was a leader of the Victory Bees, helping to guide and shape the lives of young people in the area. Her dedication to her faith was evident in her membership at First Christian Church, as well as her participation in the Eastern Star organization.

While Beep was dedicated to her community, her greatest pride and joy came from being a loving grandmother. Known affectionately as “Nana,” she found immense satisfaction in caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion.
Beep was preceded in death by her husband, Allen “Bump” McGennis; grandchildren, Timmy Lee Schmidt and Timia McGennis; her brothers, Walter “Bud,” Elisha “Jr.,” and Gerald “Pudge” Erwin; and her twin sister, Joyce “Josh” Davis.
She is survived by her sons, Tim McGennis (Paula May) and Gary McGennis (Jeanne Ann); daughters, Linda Juncker (Bob) and Janice Carr (Denny); as well as her grandchildren: Jennifer Heim (Adam), Leah Cochran, Wesley McGennis (Brittnee), Theresa Sumbles, Lynn Mason (Matthew), Jared Schmidt (Alicia), Laura Johnson (Aaron), Jacob McGennis (Heather), Katie Hopf (Blake), and Luke McGennis (Jaylyn). She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, her sister Linda “Sis” Erwin, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Schneider Funeral Home, located at 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN. Burial will follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Schneider Funeral Home, and from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The community of Mt. Vernon remembers Beep McGennis as a compassionate and dedicated individual who touched the lives of many through her work, her faith, and her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
