Alabama High School Quarterback Has Passed Away from Brain Injury During Football Game

Alabama High School Quarterback Has Passed Away: The Morgan Academy community in Selma, Alabama, is mourning the devastating loss of 16-year-old Caden Tellier, a beloved high school football player who tragically passed away after suffering a traumatic brain injury during the opening night of his football season.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday night during Morgan Academy’s first game of the season against Southern Academy. Caden, playing as a junior for the school’s football team, was injured after a tackle in the third quarter.

According to Dr. Bryan Oliver, the head of Morgan Academy, the young athlete sustained a traumatic brain injury during the play. The game was immediately delayed as medical personnel rushed to Caden’s aid, and he was quickly transported to a local hospital.

Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Caden’s injuries proved fatal, and his death was announced the following day, leaving his family, friends, and the entire community in shock and grief.

Caden’s parents shared a heartfelt statement on social media, expressing their profound sorrow and faith. “Our son has met Jesus face to face,” they wrote, adding, “Everyone who knows Caden has known kindness, generosity, and love, and true to his nature, he is giving of himself one more time.”

In a touching tribute, Caden’s family emphasized that his legacy will continue through his final act of generosity—donating his organs to save the lives of others. “Lives have been touched by the way he lived, and now lives will be saved through his passing,” they shared.

The Morgan Academy community, along with the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA), has rallied around the Tellier family during this difficult time. Dr. Oliver described Caden as a “shining light” who brought joy and positivity to the school. “Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he means to Morgan Academy,” he wrote in a message to the school community.

In light of this tragedy, AISA Executive Director Michael McLendon announced the suspension of school activities for the week, giving students, staff, and the community time to grieve and support one another.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by Kristen Jones has raised significant funds to help cover the Tellier family’s medical, life flight, and funeral expenses. The campaign has already raised $81,372 of its $100,000 goal, with donations continuing to pour in. Jones expressed deep gratitude for the community’s support, noting that Caden’s legacy will live on through the lives he continues to touch, even after his passing.

“True to his nature, he is giving of himself one more time to save the lives of others through the donation of his organs,” the campaign message read. “Thank you for loving this family as they walk this difficult road. Live like Caden.”

Caden Tellier will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving young man who had a profound impact on everyone who knew him. As the Morgan Academy community and the entire state of Alabama grieve this heartbreaking loss, they are united in honoring Caden’s memory and supporting his family during this incredibly difficult time.
