Born on February 14, 1952, in Youngstown, Ohio, Bob was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Margaret Salata (née Yanek). His life was a testament to dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his family, career, and community.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Jody (née Hummer), and their four sons and daughters-in-law: Chris and Christy Salata, Mike and Kristen Salata, Andrew and Meagan Salata, and Matt and Hayley Salata.
As a proud grandfather, Bob was deeply involved in the lives of his eleven grandchildren: Grace, Lucy, Danny, TJ, Luke, Nick, Tommy, Ben, Henry, Leo, and Ryan. His enthusiasm for their accomplishments was evident in his regular attendance at their performances and events.

Bob also leaves behind a loving extended family, including his siblings Carol and Gary Bertnick, Joe and Martha Salata, Jeanne Plakosh, Rick and Bonnie Salata, Diana and Dean Colaianni, and Judy Babnich. He was a cherished brother-in-law to Barb and Jack Smilanic, Tom and Riana Hummer, Dr. Gregory Hummer, Jim and Kim Hummer, Paul Hummer, Margaret Bigach, Susie Hummer, and Molly McBride. As a caring uncle to 32 nephews and nieces, Bob’s kindness and dedication were felt throughout his extended family.
Bob’s commitment to education and medicine was evident throughout his distinguished 40-year career at University Hospitals of Cleveland. An internationally recognized expert in Infectious Diseases and Global Health, he served as Chair of Medicine and played a pivotal role in developing UH’s Travel Medicine Program. His collaboration with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Mulago Hospital in Uganda highlighted his dedication to global health initiatives.

Memorial and Legacy
A celebration of Dr. Robert Salata’s life will be held at Church of the Gesu, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights, Ohio, on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be private.
Dr. Robert memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love, strength, and dedication will continue to inspire and uplift those who honor his memory and mission. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed and cherished forever.
